Identifies sensory, motor and perceptual delays in young children
Georgia A. DeGangi, Ph. D., OTR and Ronald A. Berk, Ph. D.

  • Age Range: 3-5 years
  • Time: 30 minutes, administration and scoring

Sensitive to even subtle developmental deficits, the TSI identifies sensory integrative dysfunction that could lead to learning difficulties, if left untreated.

The TSI includes 36 items which measure overall Sensory Integration, as well as postural Control, Bilateral Motor Integration and Reflex Integration.

These vestibular-based functions are essential to the development of:

  • Motor Skills
  • Visual-Spatial and Language Abilities
  • Hand dominance
  • Motor Planning.

The TSI requires the child to perform specific tasks or respond to various stimuli. The therapist rates the child’s performance on each item, using a numerical scale ranging from “abnormal” to “normal” development. The TSI provides a Total Score, and scores for each of the three subdomains measured. Cutoff point allow quick comparison of the child’s performance with that of normal, at-risk and deficient youngsters.

When used as a basis for screening decisions, TSI total scores demonstrate an 81 per cent accuracy rate, with a “false normal” error rate of only 9 per cent.

The complete TSI Kit includes 1 set of Test Materials, a Manual and 25 each of the Star Design Sheets and Protocol Booklets.
